1) Tenaciousness is a competency. What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course?

Time management skills are extremely important in this course. Since the class is online, I have to set times for myself to watch lectures, do the assignments, and complete the peer reviews. Additionally, the entrepreneur mindset is important to have while completing these assignments, as it is a behavior that is totally different from what’s needed in a typical college course.

2) Tenaciousness is also about attitude. Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this?

My freshman year, I experienced a lot of personal hardships, including the death of a family member. I was extremely depressed and had absolutely no motivation to keep completing assignments. By the summer, I realized how important my education was, and I found a new attitude about life that gave me motivation and purpose at UF. I’ve gotten more and more involved here at UF this year, and I have been hungry to be the best that I can be in all my endeavors.

3) Three tips. What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about (1) fostering the skills that support tenacity and (2) developing the 'tenacious mindset' ?

1- It is important to understand the importance in your work and to stay hungry. Always look for your next move.

2- Be curious and ask questions. Don’t be afraid to ask ‘stupid’ questions. There’s no such thing.

3- Step out of your comfort zone. Search around for what you truly want to do in life and don’t become complacent.

  1. I also put an emphasis on time management. I find that one of the most important things in college. When trying to balance a full time schedule, exercise, have a social life, work, spend time with family and sleep things can quickly become overwhelming. By dividing time up I found this to help a lot. I like the tips you discussed. I think stepping out of your comfort zone can really bring new and exciting adventures into your life that you may not have considered before. I also think it is important to ask questions. We all think different so understanding another thought process really helps us grow and evolve.

  2. Great post, Federico!

I believe that asking questions really shows just how interested in you are in what's being taught/presented as well as illustrates that you're paying attention and WANT to learn. I definitely agree on getting out of your comfort zone is very important, it really tests you and helps you evolve and can lead to new discoveries about ourselves!

  3. Hi Frederico,
I agree with you that the most important way to be successful in this course is to implement time management skills. With an online class it is easy to let it all pile up, but spreading these assignments out and working on them bit by bit has made this class easier for me. I’m sorry to hear about the difficulty you faced freshman year, I hope you don’t have to experience that again.

  4. Hi Federico! I agree that time management is key to the success of this course. I loved your analogy about being “hungry to be the best” and your advice to “always look for your next move.” These are honestly inspirational and I should implement them into my daily thoughts, as I love pushing myself to live my best life. I personally am unsure what I want to do in life, but I definitely love stepping out of my comfort zone, as this is how you truly experience joys in life.
