20A: Social Capital
a. Nicole Weltman, VP of Digital Marketing at TIDAL. Nicole graduated from UF with a BS in Advertising. I am putting her in the "Domain Expert" section, for her experience in the subscription service industry. TIDAL is a music streaming subscription service, and her experience helped me understand the book subscription industry. I met Nicole at The Agency, when she came to speak earlier in the year. I got her contact information after the meeting, and emailed her. We just emailed back and forth a few times about her experience, and there was no expectation of a favor to be returned. Being able to have someone like her to get advice from is invaluable.
b. John Marchetti, Marketing Manager at Pearson Books. John lives in Orlando, and I found him through LinkedIn. I'm putting him in the "Supplier" section, as he works in book publishing. I messaged him through LinkedIn, and asked about his time working for Pearson. There was no expectation of a favor to be returned.
c. Mika Garcia, Marketing Specialist at Linda Costa. I am putting her in the "Expert" field, as she is well-versed in product marketing. I met her at The Agency, and kept her contact information. We spoke on the phone for a few minutes, and there was no expectation of a favor needing to be returned.

Hi Fede,
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have built a pretty useful social network just by reaching out to those you don't know. It is great to talk to Nicole to gain insight on subscription. Since she is in the music industry, I think the versatile tips she may have gave you can make your service stronger. John, working with the publishing company, is a great connection for you can gain insights on what goes into a textbook and what it costs. This, I believe, can give you a stronger sense of fair subscription fees.
You found some great contacts for your subscription service. Nicole sounds like she would be a good contact for figuring out the logistics of a subscription service. I also like that found a supplier through LinkedIn, I didn’t even consider that resource. My LinkedIn is full of contracting professionals in Maine or theme park people here in Orlando. If I do want to move forward with my idea, its time to start building a network that could help.
ReplyDeleteFederico,
ReplyDeleteI think you have come up with a great social network. It is important to find people like this because you never know when someone may be able to help you do something that they may be an expert in. I learned some great things from the network that I built and I think it would be great to keep networking, building more relationships.
